Welcome to your Trewogey guide for October Half Term in Cornwall, where spooky fun meets the delightful chaos of family life. From exploring historic castles to pumpkin carving, there’s plenty to keep the kids busy—because nothing says “parenting win” better than finding a halloween activity that doesn't involve a bucket of sweets. For something a little different, we have a couple of fairly new family attractions almost on our doorstep:

The Story of Emily, St Ive, Liskeard, PL14 3LX open from 9am till 5pm, Thursday to Sunday. The Rectory and War Rooms are open from 10am.   Enter the world of the Hobhouse family …

The Rectory

Explore the Victorian world of the Hobhouse family set in 1875. In this restored old home, where Emily lived from her birth until she was 34 years old, you can step back in time.

The War Rooms

Here a short overview of the Anglo Boer War is given. The extraordinary impact Emily had on the events of the war is honoured. You will experience installations, animations, films, virtual reality, and see décor, historical pictures, and original artefacts.

Discovering42 Science Museum, Narisa Hall, Priory Park, Bodmin,  PL31 2DE  (25 minutes)

Cornwall’s dedicated award winning art, sustainability and science museum.  Our previous blog - Cornwall Science Museum or Discovering 42, a great day out from Treworgey Cottages in Cornwall in wet weather – is worth referring to and highlighting here once again as the museum is an extremely hands-on exhibition for all ages.  Children are actively encouraged to touch and play with absolutely everything.  Discovering42 uses art and traditional hands-on interactivity as a catalyst to bring to life physics, chemistry, engineering and environmental issues.  The current exhibition is constantly evolving and is crafted with upcycled materials and objects, from the exhibits to the walls, floors and ceilings.
